John Yantosca

John Yantosca is excited to join the Christ the Redeemer Catholic School family as our new Middle School Math teacher. He views teaching not simply as a profession, but as a ministry—an honor and privilege to share the many blessings God has given him with the next generation.

Over the past several years, John has served as a substitute teacher in Conroe ISD and at Frassati Catholic High School. He previously taught intermediate mathematics at Assumption Catholic Middle School and Computer Applications at Frassati Catholic High School. Alongside his wife, Joanne, John also served as a catechist for more than 30 years while raising their family, helping to nurture the faith of countless young people.

John and Joanne celebrated their 53rd wedding anniversary this past June. They have lived in The Woodlands since 1990 and are active parishioners at Sts. Simon and Jude Catholic Church. Together they have four adult children and five grandchildren. Their oldest son, Michael, and his wife, Dorothea, live in Sugar Land with their daughter, Alethea. Their daughter, Theresa, and her husband, Richmond, originally from Ghana, live in Erie, Colorado, with their three sons, Efiri, Maseda, and Adom. Their son, Daniel, and his wife, Mayra, are parishioners at Christ the Redeemer and are raising their daughter, Isabella. Their youngest daughter, Alicia, is currently in the second year of a three-year contract teaching English to children in Japan.

John grew up in Boston, Massachusetts, while Joanne was raised in Hamden, Connecticut. They met through the Newman Club while attending the University of Massachusetts Amherst. John earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Astronomy and Physics, with minors in Mathematics and Geology, and was inducted into both Phi Beta Kappa and Phi Kappa Phi honor societies. After marrying, he earned a Master of Science in Geophysics from the State University of New York.

Before entering education, John enjoyed a distinguished career as a geophysicist, working for the U.S. Naval Oceanographic Office and several major oil companies. Throughout his career, he held positions ranging from senior staff geophysicist to chief geophysicist.

In addition to his academic and professional accomplishments, John recently became a certified Passionist Spiritual Director after graduating from the Holy Name Retreat Center in Houston. His hobbies include music, playing three musical instruments, board and card games, and calligraphy.

John is grateful for the opportunity to teach at Christ the Redeemer and looks forward to helping students grow academically while encouraging them in their faith journey.
